From its inception, St.Clair McColl - the founder, always believed that the Islanders needed their own seaplane air service. ”Floatplanes flown by locals, for the locals”. Today Saltspring Air is a major employer in Ganges. Our office on Salt Spring Island supports the local economy, we shop local, and help out local business whenever we can. When you have to get somewhere we want to take you because the Islanders are important to us. We support the local fundraisers, the local schools, and charities.

Our “You Who” in the Driftwood, every week, is where someone gets their photo in the newspaper and a chance to win a free trip to Vancouver. Its kind of funny, people are always asking, “Where should I be… so that the photographer will capture me and I can get my picture in the paper?” Half the fun is the notoriety.

We are so familiar with the community we do some unusual things... We will pick you up at your house on snowy days when you can’t get out your driveway. St.Clair recalls one time he looked after one of his passengers dogs when the owner was stranded out of town for a couple days. And we even took a guy to the hospital in Vancouver, to see his son born. The fellow had no money at the time for the flight, but said he was good for it. We figured that it was a pretty important occasion to attend so we said “lets go!”.

We are a small community, and a small seaplane service but we are big in heart.
